Teak keepsake/document box

This is another keepsake/document box where the hinges are inlaid flush. The box is from teak and the lid inset is a quilted ash veneer. The hinge pieces and all the accents are from some black acrylic pen blanks that I cut to the various sizes. It has a fine subtle white streak through the black acrylic that helps make the hinges unique.
I staggered the widths of the hinge leaves to give the visual incremental effect and kept that theme on the lid and the lift motif. The inlay strips on the lid are also from black acrylic.
The box and tray are lined with a suede pigskin and the box measures 358mm x 250 mm x 110 mm high.

Very unique box. The hinge and spline material really stands out. The hinges are amazing… I’m fond of the round bottoms of the slots, too (don’t think I’ve ever seen a round bottomed miter spline before).

Very nice! That is definitely a different look and material for the hinges.

Ruddy…this is a very striking box. You did an outstanding job from the choice of wood, the beautiful inlay and exotic hinges and the interior design and coverings. This is really a sweet piece. Way to go!!!

Just what we have come to expect from you: an innovative design perfectly executed and flawlessly finished. The black acrylic with the swirl was a great addition that only you would have thought of. I still haven’t worked up the courage to try those hinges but I love em!
