We wanted a digital picture frame but I always thought they were a bit pricey for me. I saw the idea on the internet somewhere about making one with an old laptop. I acquired an old laptop that was slow and had a broken hinge. I stripped it of its battery, cd-rom, floppy drive and case. Removed the display hinges and folded it backwards. Held it together with aluminum tape. Made a frame and cut the matte. Taped it to the matte with more aluminum tape. I attached a cross over cable to the ethernet port and mounted a CAT5 coupler to the frame. A basic load of XP is all that is on the laptop. I shared the MY Pictures folder and set the slideshow screen saver. Now all I have to do is take a regular network cable, connect my good laptop to it and transfer the new pictures. It works great!
Although I spent more time on the electronics, I did make the frame in the shop.

Frankenframe! :-) Very cool idea… I have an old laptop or 2 around here that I could use for this.
