Although at least two other LJ’s have posted this project, I thought the members might be interested in another rendition. Mine is made of cherry with mahogany corner posts. The plan can be found at http://www.popularwoodworking.com/projectplans_display/?planid=11094.
The cherry was rescued from a dumpster outside an extravagantly upscale condo project in Ketchum, ID, the resort town serving Sun Valley. I had been looking for a project that would utilize the various scraps and was taken by the Limbert design. The joinery is straight forward and the box has a nice size and shape. As several LJ’s commented, on the previous posts of this project, and my wife agreed, it’s too nice (not to mention large) for a waste basket, so ours was used this winter to hold gloves and mittens near the front door.

Great wastebox. I have wanted to make one as well, I like your design. I also like projects from salvaged wood.

This is a nice project. Your version of the container turned out well. Not bad for a piece that began with a bit of “dumpster diving”. :)

You did a good job with both the construction and the design.

Thanks for the post.

Nice! Kinda poetic that one persons garbage turned into a very beautiful “garbage can”. Ya I couldn’t use it for trash either.
