My best friend moved back to Indiana from California, and I made them this table as a house warming gift. The legs and sides are made from some Oak and the top is made from some Cherry. It was a fun project to complete.
I tried a new finish that seemed to work really well. They have kids, so I knew I wanted to use a poly type finish. I had read in WOOD that you can take and cut poly 1/2 and 1/2 with mineral spirits. I gave it a try and really liked it. Did not have to worry about the streaks and runs. I did change it to 1 part spirits to two parts poly after the first couple of coats to leave a better coat of finish!

Nice looking table. I agree cutting ploy with mineral spirits is an easier way to apply it. It works well.

Good work. I like the “floating” style. I’ve not yet tried the diluted Poly, but plan to soon. Thanks for sharing.
