Hi gang!
2010 Nationa Fancy Call Contest, matched set of laminated calls. First Place Amature matched Set and Best in Class Amature call maker. I was thrilled!! Now I have to compete in the Professional Division.
Zircote, bolivian rosewood, and maple, compound miter segments, short reed goose call and matching cow elk call. All wooden handmade guts and toneboards.
A complicated project to say the least, but you have to step up to the plate for the nationals. I must have done 120 test cuts to get the miter saw dialed in for the compound mitered segmented rings. You can’t be off a tenth of a degree if you want them all to glue together as a circle and then line up. The most intense part of the project was running all the segmented rings through the drum sander. I stuck them to a board with double sided carpet tape and sanded them all at once. Had they come loose it would have ben a total disaster, but I have the technique down and it works slick. I also made a custom base out of all the leftover practice pieces so people could get a grasp of how the project came together.
All The Best!
Doug

wow talk about setup! I have a hard enough time getting a perfect 45 in big pieces. Though about turning some calls myself but haven’t tried it yet. Nice project.
Have your say...
