this little project started a few weeks ago….
i am the proud owner of a little HITACHI SV12SG 240V palm sander….if you want a review….its great…done..
using a home made fingerjoint jig and a little dewalt lamiate trimmer made a snug little box to use for my sander…..the corners are fingered together at a size of 10mm…the base is rebated in to place just like the top….the handle is laminated then a full length sliding dovetail will ensure even if the glue fails…the joint wont…
i recycled a old tool box catch and fixed into place…but the box did not look right….cue the wire brush…lots of elbow greece…...a health dollop of dark rich polish…..erm….and one more little touch…erm…..oh yes….blow torch….it went up a treat….with a firm brush and a few more burnings i was happy with the distressed look…will post some updated pictures of inside and when its not on fire

Here, I was thinking the sander caught fire inside the box. Nice idea for finishing touches

Ok, first time I have ever seen this finishing technique! Glad it worked out for you, but I think I will pass!

I assume you put the fire out before the box “finished” into ashes. Nice touch though, just keep the extinguisher close at hand when using this method. Looking forward to the final pictures.
Thanks,

I believe you have our undivided attention here. On fire? What a great finishing technique for something other than furniture.
Call me prophetic, call me visionary but I see this making it into the Hot Projects list quite soon.
