Two twin trivets (8×8) and one five fingered trivet (8×8) with glass/stone back splash inserts to keep hot pots off the counter. The twins are a 6×6x1/2 plywood base with a 1” border. Plane down top of border to ensure back splash insert is taller than the wood to prevent burning of the border. The five fingered trivet required routing of the center of each finger to receive the back splash strip. The side pieces were routed to receive the fingers. Some of the fingers were hand cut because they were simply too small to use safely on the router. The recipe card holder (house) holds 3×5 cards. The top lifts, to get the card and then place the card on the roof of the house with the tab at the end of the roof to retain the card while food is being prepared. All the plans were downloaded from various free woodworking sites. I thank my wife for having the patience to paint the “fence” on the house and the encouragement to make some Christmas gifts.

I like the twins! Smaller ones may make some nice coasters as well.
Enjoy!

Mcasady: I had not thought of coasters, but its a good idea and easy to do. Lots-a-styles based on glass/stone back splash patterns.
