I made this lap desk so I can write code and hang out with the family instead of being in the office all of the time. I’m not a big fan of placing the laptop on my lap and I prefer to use a mouse as well so this lap desk will work out great. This project is made from Walnut and Pecky Cypress and is about 38 inches by 15 inches and is coated with General Finishes Satin PolyAcrylic.

Thanks Ethan! I saw the idea somewhere years ago and it just came to mind a few weeks ago so I figured I would try it. Now, I have neighbors who want me to make them one as well!

I made something similar for my wife a couple of years ago only not as creative as you – I just put some edge banding on a piece of birch ply, shellacked it and there you go. Yours actually has some style. Nice job.

Funny side story – I was going to post the one I made and then it dawned on me – it’s just a board. :)

LOL! It is just a board but people post cuttingboards (like myself) so this is sort of the same thing.

Very nice, I like the 2 materials. How thick did you make it?

Thanks Michigander! It’s 1/2 inch thick.
