Made this out of walnut and maple and pine for the ‘stone wall’. I ripped the pine in two, cut the small slots and glued the top back on to make the mortises. The ‘beams’ go all the way through to the opposite sides and are half-lapped where they meet under the squares. The squares have slots cut in them to sit on the beams. I carved the stones into the wood and then used a wire brush to age them some and then painted them. The finish is poly on the squares and craft paint on the ‘stone’ wall. It was fun to do.

Very nice Chess Board. I made one like it but it is a box that the pieces can hide in till the enemy appears…
