This is my first project uploaded to lumberjocks.
So, to celebrate my 200th post and my 50th day on lumberjocks, I decided to make a chessboard.
White cubes: hard maple (oh come on… Blunt planer knives now…) -_-
Black cubes: Walnut
Boarder: cherry
No finish is on it as I never had any around… :P
Sanded to 1000 grit and now it feels smoother than glass.
Any questions, comments welcome!

That is a very nice chess board and table. I’d suggest you do get some finish on it before playing on it as the oil in your skin will get into the wood and discolor it. For having blunt planer knives, you got a super finish with no chip outs on that hard maple!! Good job!
Thanks for sharing. Now you have to make the chess pieces!!!!

A great table – functional AND fun! From your description I am thinking the blocks are the depth of the table top – not laid on top of another piece of wood? I can think of so many places to put a table like this – I may be stealing your idea.
Congrats on 200 – you are bit more talkative than me, but not much. :)

Oh yeah, And To make it easier, underneath you can rout a small 1/4 inch slot and put a piece of mdf there if you need help laminating the blocks.
