My first project

Most people start off with a box or something similarly small. I was living in Saudi Arabia where I had purchased a 7’ x 7’ Tempur mattress (very expensive so I couldn’t leave it behind). When I got back to the United Kingdom, I found that it was impossible to purchase a bed frame to fit the mattress – hence the rather ambitious first project.

It is made from American White Oak and I used a softwood for the cross members that support the mattress. It was certainly challenging since I ordered rough sawn timber in 10’ lengths. You can probably imagine the struggle I had, single handedly, passing 7’ x 10” x 2” lengths of timber through my planner/thicknesser. Anyway, I was quite pleased with the end result.

Great first project

Yes you chose a tough one, which I think

is far better. It tests you to the limits.

I need a 7×7 Tempur as my 4’6” one

is two small for the missus two boxers a

Very nice first project. My first was a set of bookends I made when I was around 9 or 10 years old.

That is a great looking bed. It is a great looking design and certainly looks well built. Congratulations on an impressive first project.

Wow. I don’t even remember my first project but I guarantee it wouldn’t compare. Very nice.

My wife wants a king size bed. What was your timeline for the build? Nice build and I’m betting you sleep well? LOL!

That mattress is a monstrosity. Just this morning I saw an ad for a 7’ x 7’ Tempur mattress set… Those are totally new to me. Had me wondering just where you get sheets for something that big. I have trouble finding sheet for my standard King set…
