Spalted

This started off with a Bubinga box with a Walnut lid. I went to add the miter keys and likedthe way the White Oak looked next to the Bubinga. So I added 2 Oak and 1 Walnut miter key to each corner. At this point I need to pull the Oak into the lid, so I wrapped the Walnut with White Oak. After looking at it that way I decided I also needed to pull the Bubinga up onto the lid. So I did the inlays. I have been doing this quite a bit recently so I decided to miter where the Bubinga strips cross. I think it’s a very nice detail. Then looking around the shop I spied a piece of spalted oak I saved from the fireplace last winter and instantly knew I had found the medallion and handle.

I like this one a lot. Thanks for taking a look and for any comments you would like to leave.

Joey

Thanks David and Monte. My wife has been eyeballing it. I think I might have to hide it until the show. LOL

GREAT box, Joey! The wood combination is spectacular, and the subtle shaping makes the unusual wood character and combinations pop. Good job!

Joey Never to be repeated

Tell the wife to put a sold sticker on it

Then it can still go to the show and the

wife gets a fantastic looking box

Joey, I can’t believe you would pull out the private stash of spalted oak in order to top Bella on her boxes…..

I do like the lid though…..
