I started this project soon after my in-laws gave us their old king sized bedroom suit, but it had no side tables. The bed stands a little under a foot taller than our old bed, so our old tables were quite cumbersome. The pedestal style is taken from an antique set Ive seen at the in-laws, but the design is something i made up on the go, with a makeshift compass (strip of scrap wood with a nail in one end, and a pencil in the other.) It is made of cherry except for the drawer box, which is cedar back and sides, and plywood bottom. My first decent box and drawer system, it works, but there is no true angle in the piece. The pedestal and the base is made of 8/4 lumber in an attempt from making it too top heavy. Lag bolts hold the 3 main pieces together with minimal rocking. Finished with dark stain (forgot the color, just tried to match it to the rest of the furniture) and poly. It’s heavier than it looks, but easy to grip. Dragging my feet on table two, I kept no notes.

Great design! For making it up on the go, I would say you did a fine job.
