Another creation and design I just can’t help myself ideas just keep coming and they won’t stop :) This box can be used as a duel purpose either for valet or a desktop box, I handcrafted out of Red Cedar it has one large devided drawer in which both the center tray on both top and drawer are 4” and 4 1/4” W with the two outside trays 2 1/2” drawer and 3” top tray. The measurments are 11 1/2” W x 4” H x 5 3/4” D.

Actually Larry I have 3 more ready to post just don’t like posting them on top of each other and more on the table :) Building the boxes I consider that my play time but when it comes time to apply the finish well that’s when play time is over and time to go to work. LOL

Randy, if you find you don’t have time to build them all, just send a couple designs to me and I will give them a go. I just ordered some new parts and a couple 1/4” blades for my band saw. I have 3 boxes 1/2 cut laying on the bench…my design did not take in the fact I was using 3/16” blades and I just could not make the turn on a few of the drawers…just needed a smaller blade.

Randy,
I like every new box/tray better than your last. This is lovely. You are on the right track with your ideas. The pull is pretty beefy, but I like the form and shape your boxes have morphed into. I know what you mean about the drudgery of finish. I resent the time spent finishing because I want to be off to the next box not working on one that is already built.
I know I am going to sound like the village idiot, but it is very important that you build the next dream-vision-concept that comes into your mind. My experience is that if I build the next one, another will take its place. If you can’t keep up, sketch it out and build it when you get the chance. If I don’t build it I can get “stuck.” Isn’t it fun when you are lucky enough to get in this zone?
Looking forward to your next post. You are so wise to space them out. Keep boxing and keep posting. And thanks for taking us along on your journey.

That is another cool creation (but no secret drawer?). You haven’t posted one yet that I didn’t like. How did you finish that red cedar? I have had problems with some finishes having sticky spots on red cedar.

Well Big A on the pull are you talking about the over all size or how far it’s away from the drawer front? It’s still a learning curve for me the extenders are 3/8” and the pull it’s self is 1/2” but looking at it I think it’s ok I guess it could be a bit closer to the front.
I get all of my ideas during my sleep or just when I get up in the morning and I jot them down I have so many right now that I have rattling around up there and sometime soon I’m going to have to pull off of them and build a spice rack for a house warming gift.
My next big box to make will be a ladies jewelry box, A rough measurment will be 11” x 8” x 4” and going to make it a neckless holder with drawers, I’d like to add a music mechanism to it but not sure if those are outdated. I’m thinking Walnut and spalted hackberry for the wood.

Andy I’m not real sure guys care much for a hidden drawer but if the box is thick enough to allow for a hidden drawer I’ll put on in. :)
I do one coat of Tung Oil and 2 -3 coats of lacquer, never had any problems yet.

A nifty design Randy. Very nice. Also, Randy, they do still make musical workings, but, I think they’re expesive. If anyone has a link for them, other than Blackie, I would appreciate it too. Rockler does have one for 14 bux, but then a few others for, well, I feel down when I seen the price
