Made of cherry wood from the same log but cut at 2 different times. The sides are quarter-sawn from one cutting and the bottom and top are from the second cutting. The box measures 8’’ x 8’’ x 3’’ and is finished with danish oil. The inside was left unfinished. Thanks for the comments and looks.

That quartersawn cherry looks a lot like quarter sawn sycamore. First time I’ve seen that in cherry. Very cool.

Very nice job. Like the look of the cherry.

gfadvm——I thought the same thing too. I was really concerned that I had picked the wrong pile but I had several pieces left over that the sides were made from and I could match it with the cherry log—-grain to grain—from where I had slabbed it off so I know its cherry but it sure had me confused for a while too!

So why no finish on the inside? Seems a waste to not show the grain there as well.
