6 way miter

Baby furniture built by Dad for the first time and Grandpa for the first time. I’m the proud Grandpa. Made from solid ash and ash veneer. The bed converts from an infant bed to a toddler bed to a youth bed to a twin bed so it can grow as the baby grows. We finished it just in time because it looks like the baby will be here in two or three days. The corners are a 6 way miter. First the frames are made with mitered corners then the frames for the sides, top, and front are mitered together. It makes for a very interesting corner.

That is a very impressive joint. Don’t think I could pull that off.

Darned Impressive. Not once, but 12 times by my count. I think by the time I was done getting the corners right on something like that, they’d be the size of cigar boxes instead of bedroom furniture.

I am still struggling to repeatedly produce a perfect 45°…the precision in your work (spacing between the drawers, for example) is really impressive.

You love accuracy and it shows. Thanks for making it look easy, me like don1965 would end with dolls furniture by the time I got it right.

Nice tight joints! I’m impressed. Congrats on your first Grandson or Granddaughter. As they say “If I knew how much fun they were I would of had them instead of my kids.” Don

Most importantly: Congrats to dad and grandpa!

This is a lovely bedroom set which will serve the newcomer for many years, and serve as a reminder that she or he was well loved even before that first cry for air!

How on earth can you plan a corner like that – are you a mathc genius?
