I decided to build an inexpensive Bench, I was getting tired of the flimsy work tables I had. I got some pine 2X4’s and piece of 4ft Birch Plywood and some fence post and put this together. I tell you the heft from the post sure does help with planing. and I connected the Vise with some Oalk for sturdiness. it’s no Roubo but it’s pretty sturdy for sure. It took me two days to put it together. the post and side beams are held together with Bolts, the posts are attached to the feet via mortise and Tenon with a Lag bolt going through the bottom. And dovetailed the table sides and put 1/2 inch dowels to hold down the top, I could have just screwed it together but I didn’t want the screws to interfere with the wood. anyway it’s a work in progress.

Nicely done. Now you can start handplanning your lumber without moving the bench along.

Steve,
Great little Bench, he’s standing strong and proud, ready to go to work.

nice construction. if you feel the heft when planing then you’ve done it right!

Nothing like stout, solid work table and yours looks to be all of that. Nice looking too.
Have your say...
