When I found this piece of scrap Cherry lying around at work in a pile previously used as shelf wood, I thought it was a crime. The big “ugly” knot in front was what did it for me. After pondering the piece for a while, I finally saw a piece of Ash lying around and it clicked. I drew out some plans and came up with this very attractive piece.
The box is held together with butt joints and dowels (one of my personal favorite techniques). I think the brass hardware really goes nicely and the contrast of the Cherry and Ash is nice too.
The well.. cherry on top so to speak is the several coats of danish oil i put on. It really enhances the beauty of the grain of the cherry and the defect in front as well.
This box is currently for sale on my Etsy Shop. Thanks for looking and God bless!
