Inspired by mafe’s pencil box
which was in turn inspired by vipond33
I decided to try my own hand at a pencil box. It turned out larger than I had originally planned, so it will now be used to hold my rulers. The inside is lined with felt and I added a second round of pencil segments around the top to increase the strength.
I really like the bottom view, so I might just glue up a bunch of pencils and make some trivets!
Ingredients:
Lots of colored pencils
Lots of CA glue
Black felt
Varnish
This was a fun and quick project. I am traveling a lot these days and have not had much shop time. Plus it is hideously hot and my shop in in the garage, so not so much fun to be out there.

My wife does awesome portraits using colored pencils. They cost about a dollar apiece. Your work is absolutely beautiful, but oh so expensive!

Thanks all – it was fun and will add a bit of color to my shop!
kajunkcraft – I can guaranteed you these are NOT the dollar apiece pencils. I found the cheapest ones at Amazon – about 14 cents each! 3 boxes worth.

Kay,
Looks like you are having way too much fun with this idea. The colors are a delight. Even your rulers look happy to be there. I like your tip to tip twist. This is one of those projects that just makes me smile. Thanks for sharing it.

Hey Kay, that is just a kick. Good job, and nice photos too.
What fun. I have enjoyed the other pencil boxes too. Nice of you to join in.

Hi Kay,
This is surreal. You people have pencil boxes, with plenty of pencils, that cannot be used !!
Well at least you can store some wood in.
Nice colours

Hi Kay,
This is so cool!
I love the way you ‘turned it arround’, this box will sure add color to the shop and plenty of smiles.
I love it!
Thanks for the kind words, perhaps this will start a wave…

I can’t believe I missed this (but for an endless parade of projects). Go away for just a bit and get lost.
These colours and ideas just keep getting better and better! You found a beauty nice pattern in the round and coasters to boot! I do love the black interior.
It could be a cheap fun trend someday, with you leading the way for rulers rule! & with lots of empty metal boxes giving other oddball storage.
A little bit of colour in the shop and in the day is always a welcome addition for me, thanks for the build and post.
