I kept the original cases because of the open space plan, then replaced the PVC wrapped cabinet doors and drawer fronts with flat panel T&G pine doors. The finish on the cabinet doors and end panels is a white acrylic stain which gives visibility to the grain and knots. I replaced the formica tops with 35mm bubinga hardwood tops which should last forever!! I built the counter tops around the basin and stove hob cut outs to save on waste. This really helped to keep the cost of the tops within reason.

I love that counter top!

I just finished a very very minor remodel of our kitchen; had to cut down a upper cabinet for a taller refrigerator. It was interesting to say the least!

What finish did you use on the counter top? How will it stand up to daily use; hot/cold/water etc.?

Art,

Very nice! The striking contrast between the cabinets and countertops is terrific.

Better Homes & Gardens would love to see this on their site, I bet. What a great job ! I love the counters. Did you make the cutting board on the counter, too? As someone who is designing three kitchens remodels , I can seriously appreciate the job you did.
