This is made out of “reclaimed MDF”—sort of. Actually, it was two very busted up sheets of 1/2” MDF in the cull bin at Home Depot…$2.01 each. I managed to get enough pieces out to put this together; I laminated a 1/4” layer of birch ply top and bottom—to give it a little more strength, and cover a couple damaged spots I couldn’t work around.
The paint is a montage of layered colors; the first finish coat is shellac, topped by multiple layers of polyurethane. I’m actually pretty proud of the finish – it has depth and the colors really pop under indoor lighting (4th pic).
It’s 35-1/4” in diameter (a function of the size of the least damaged portion of the MDF), 20” tall (counting the caster height).
Taking it to the store when they reopen Thursday….wish me luck!
