I certainly took my time finishing this project, but it’s finally complete. I got my hands on a piece of dark green marble that was from the soda counter in my grandfather’s pharmacy. I decided to make a bench out of it to put in my foyer so that people have a place to sit while taking off and putting on their shoes.
The bench design is inspired by this Bancroft Bench (also picture #6 above). Most of the material is spalted maple, with a few strips of walnut in the top panels. I used a wiping varnish with a buffed wax finish. This is my first furniture project done almost entirely in my own workshop.
I also have some process pictures in my Picassa album for those interested:

Very nice, that spalted maple looks great with the marble.

Thanks! It’s a slim one-car garage, so I try to pack things in there as efficiently as I can. After finishing the bench, it was obvious that I still have work to do on organizing things, but I have a plan.
Yes, picture #5 is my logo, and the text below it is “MMXII” (2012)—though it’s a little hard to make it out in that picture. I posted a project about it, so you’re welcome to read more about it.
