Project Information

This chair is half new and half old and was inspired by a discarded tie down strap from a flatbed. The strap is 4 inches wide and was about 12 feet long. Since the day that I recovered it I wanted to make a chair out of it but it took a while to come up with a design that I was happy with. I eventually came up with this fairly simple and open frame that I made out of cedar. The straps attach to the front and top rails and weave through three rails at the back of the seat. The frame was coated with a natural color gel stain and the strap was left alone. As you can see, most of the strap has worn gray from use but a part of it is still bright yellow and I like how you can still see the "Made in USA" stamp on several of the straps.
