custom built for 2 younger teen boys, ht. between beds was tailored for the older boys head clearance plus growth over the next 2-3 years to maximize usage. Built with all “construction grade” 2×6 pine trimed to 5” wide on all the main frame, deep mortise and tenon joinery on all head/foot board joints. Stairs also built with full 1” pine lumber, I salvaged some elliotis pine (Brazilian) from a retail bed set thrown away and used for the steps (my first time using this elliotis pine – beautiful wood), Final size was 79”X56”x76”, stained with minwax mission oak poly shade.

Mike,
Great work. Love the bed. Did you design this yourself or did you buy plans. My daughter-in-law told me yesterday that she wanted bunk beds with steps.

Hi Greg,
Thanks for the compliment – my furniture is all custom built to my clients specific space and functional requirements, So pre-made plans really are not of much benefit for me. My bunkbeds are “built around the mattress” size as there are different sizes available on the market. Even though I have built several sets of bunkbeds, none have turned out exactly alike, which is why I enjoy custom building so much. I also custom measure for head clearence and add on for growth to make sure my clients get several years use. If I can be of assistance to you, don’t hesitate to ask. Have a good one!

Mike

Nice design, Mike! I like the drawers built into the stairs.

Have your say...
