I built this table and chairs from red oak I bought from a farmer. It was only air dried but has been fine for 2 years. The chairs came from a plan in Wood magazine but the table is totally my own creation. There is no leaf but it made the construction simpler. The kids have already helped me add enough “character” that the top could be re-finished. Table is a bit on the tall side. ( I had all the legs cut to the same length but a bit long so I could adjust later and then forgot). Chairs were a challenge as they were my first attempt at a dining chairs. My tenons didn’t quite close up tight on the chair back slats but otherwise I am fairly pleased with the outcome. The stain is Minwax Cherry. Top is somewhere between 1 1/8th and 1 1/4 thick if I remember right and the legs are 3”x3” square. I finished it with poly using a slightly thinned mixture as I prefer to use a rag and then sand after each coat except the final. In hidesight I would have had more coats on the top but nothing that can’t be fixed.

I like the design. Nice work. Don’t worry if the table is too high, the kids can just rest their chins on the table and shovel the food in. ;o)

Looks good. I like the way the chair back slats tie into the slats on the table…

This is a nice table and chairs. The construction looks solid. The similar slats between the chairs and the table and curved rails on the chairs add nice details to the set.
Nice post.
Thanks for sharing.
