Wall Mount Jewelry Cabinets

This whole project started because my wife ordered one of those cheap jewelry boxes off of TV. When it arrived and we started to examine it I couldn’t help but comment on the poor quality of construction – not to mention the thin laminate color sheeting that was considered the exterior finish. Needless to say we sent it back and I got to work.
At some point in the process – early on but after the design phase – I decided to make six cabinets as gifts to other members of the family. After drawing up the plans and determining the materials I would need I got busy. The pictures I have posted are only just a few that were taken during the process. I had thought to blog about it – that was before I found this site!
The body is 1/2 Ply while the face frame and cross bars are a solid stock – which kind I don’t recall. I stained the entire cabinet with a deep cherry stain and two coats of lacquer. The full length mirror is covered on the back with velvet to protect both the mirror and the hanging items. The ring foam at the top was purchased online but the rest of the cabinet – aside from the hinges and the magnetic closure – was entirely fabricated.

Drifter,
Nice job! Thanks for posting this cool jewelry cabinet with the dimensions! It looks similar to what I’d like to make in the near future.

Great project… nice design and build… hopefully my wife won’t see this… duh…

Now having said that, there seems to be plenty of room left for more bling… any concern that she might want to fill it up??

Thank you all for the warm welcome and the kind comments. I have a few other projects that I have also designed or modeled before building – I will have to put them up as well. Dustyal – Fortunately she is fairly conservative but yes – still plenty of room for more in the years to come! If she runs out of room I will just have to design a bigger one – perhaps with two doors!
