I made this Curly maple table for my lovely fiance’ for her senior art show here in Philadelphia at Moore College Art and Design. I’m pretty new/novice to wood working with no formal training, so I’m pretty proud of this table. Its got basic shaker tapered leg with mortise/tenon construction and solid maple top with nice grain and curly parts. I used a contrasting Brazilian Coyote Wood for the ribs holding up the top. Tried some dovetails for those but that quickly turned into simple dadoes (again I’m a novice). I also did 4 frames for her paintings out of the curly maple I used for the legs, all for her show (no pics of frames as her art isn’t in them yet.) So I hope you guys liike.

This is one beautiful table. Love the lines and of course that floating top is great with the edge detail that you chose.

This is a nice table. The top adds an interesting detail to the project. The woods contrast nicely with one another.
I do like this table.
Thanks for sharing.

Just beautiful, gorgeous, I love maple and you’ve used it to it’s best advantage. You would have a hard time convincing me you’re a rookie. I’ve seen pros that don’t do this good. Very, very nice. Just outstanding. I also love what you did with the floating top. Congrats. mike

Really an interesting design, and some great wood. Pretty mpressive work for someone who calls himself a novice.

It appears that formal training is over rated! That’s a sharp table, and just the thing for an art student to display her work on.
Good job,

Thanks for the great comments guys! The floating top came to me in process as to add some contemporary appeal to the table. I forgot to mention I finished the beautiful wood with tung oil and butcher wax for a nice “feel”. thanks again guys, I’m glad I joined such a supportive community of woodworkers.
