I made this for (you guessed it) my son. When he was getting older he was running out of space so I made him a chest of drawers. At least on this project I had help from him. I let him do some sanding. I was lucky to get that out of him, mainly he is a spoiled brat! But he is a good kid.

Hi Shayne,

This is a nice chest. The construction looks solid. The rope molding and eeyore knobs add some nice details to the project. How did you finish it?

I wouldn’t worry about your son too much. If he is to enjoy woodworking then he will take to it. My father, a third generation carpenter, tried to get me interested while I was in high school in cabinet/furniture construction but I couldn’t see the necessity of learning it then. Now I don’t have the opportunity to avail myself of his knowledge and regret it, but such is life.

Thanks for the post.

Very nice! Did you make the rope molding yourself?

Hi Shayne;

Great job on the dresser. I told a friend once that my son is spoiled. His reply was,”he’s not spoiled, he’s loved”.

He did have a point. I suspect the same is true for your son!

tenontim, I believe it is birch but could be poplar I’m not sure. There about 10 years old. I just can’t remember right now. When I get home I will take a look at them and let you know.

Scott, I finished it with Minwax-Golden pecan and Minwax-varnish (semi-gloss)
Thanks for the note about my son.

Paul D, No I did not make the rope molding. I bought it at Woodcraft store that is in town.

Lee, Thanks for that note. My wife and I tell him all the time that he is a spoiled brat and that we love him more. He think we’re weird and laughs with us all the time. Like I said before he is a great kid (teenager now)

Great job on both. The dresser and the son. I’ve got a 36 yo son and 28 yo daughter and they were both spoiled brats, but today they are the most wonderful people you would ever want to meet. I’m very proud of both. So spoil away. Keep up the good woodworking, nice job. mike
