My grandmother’s friend had an old cedar chest purchased for her mother many many years ago. It was painted terribly and had a crack in the top so I epoxied the top and sanded down the outside. When I saw the beautiful cedar behind the paint I talked to her and we decided to simply clear coat it.

Why would anyone paint over cedar? This turned out beautiful. If you look at my page you will see I love working with cedar.

That’s what I said! I think the manufacturer painted it in the beginning and they just kept putting new coats on over time. I think it’s around 100 years old. Thanks!
I will check out your projects. I love cedar. I will be posting pictures soon of my lifeguard chair build from old cedar 2×10’s used on a house’s fascia.
Have your say...
