Hi folks,

So the sister of my girlfriend is getting a fine Waterman Carène red acrylic fountain pen for her birthday, and I quickly agreed with me, myself and I, that she really could use a box to go along with it. After a few minutes of tinkering around in Illustrator with the dimensions of a cool leftover piece of Vavona burl from the previous project (mom’s day box) and a few bits of a very girly inlay strip and european peer veneer, I ended up with this. Definately not worthy of any comparison to Martyn’s, nor japanese-inspired as Mads would have done (I bought the box readymade) but oh, well, next time.

The black inlay strip is stained-dunno-species from my main veneer supplier. Finish is a single thick coat of shellac (I know, not enough, but time was so short, I had two days to do it). I also lined the inside with red felt, but didn’t take pictures, not class enough in my book.

Needless to say she was very glad and the rest of the family also found it very cool.
How about you guys?

Cheers from autumn-weathered France!

Very nice Thomas. The box may be off the shelf but the veneer design is sweet.
That is a beautiful piece of burl.

Looking good Thomas.
Since you do not have a workshop at home I think it is fair and fine to buy the box.
Nice feminine box, it is made for a girl.
Urban woodworking, buddy.
Best thoughts,
