Gift for teachers at end of the year

My son is 4 and this was his first year at a “real” school. Well, he had three teachers and it came to my attention (the wife told me) that they should get end of the year gifts for doing such a wonderful job. So I decided that it would be rather quick and easy to turn out some jewelry racks.

This set of racks was made with reclaimed slats from an old futon and the wood tone was quite nice, though the grain was boring. I added butt jointed the frame and added through dowels for strength. The capped it and added corbels. This time I skipped the mortise and tenon routine on the cross members and simply glued them to the face, but tried to smooth in Sam Maloof style (apologies to Sam.)

In any event, they were a huge hit and I am happy to have some great teachers happy!

Cheers!

Very cool. Nice design an great excecution.

Teachers deserve so much for all that patience they have.

Good job. The corbels really tie it all together.

I have never thought of sideways keyholes. I bet that would work great on a small wall piece with only one keyhole, it could be wiggled sideways to find balance. My world just got bigger.
