This is a box I made for a friend with some scrap oak I had laying around and wenge as the miter splines/lift handle. As the title says it is my first attempt at building a box and my first attempt at the miter spline joint.
Dimensions: 9”L 6”w 5”h
My favorite part of the project was finishing. I used BLO for the first time as well as shellac for the first time. 2 coats of BLO were applied before roughly 6 coats of garnet shellac with a small amount of aniline dye. I ended up with some fat edges but overall I like the finish, it really shines in person. This project took a few days, the next one with be made with figured african mahogany and wenge.
