I made this 4 post bed in Oct. and Nov. of 2011, it’s made mostly out of Cypres but the runner’s are solid 2” x 10” Mahogany board’s.
The bed posts are solid 5” x 5” Cyprus posts. I kept it partially rustic since my wife like’s the rustic look on thing’s and kept some of the saw mark’s from when the planks were cut from the tree log’s where I purchased the wood at. Did a minor sanding over them just to smooth them out and left them there.
The first picture you can see what the runner’s looked like before they were planed and sanded. Can’t quite tell how much this bed weighs but it’s pretty heavy and takes a couple people to move around. I did made it so it can be disassembled using tear drop steel bracket’s so I can easily take the rail’s off and move when need be, which we moved shortly after assembling the bed in our room ha ha, so it proved a good idea.
Did a final stain of early american and 3 coats of polyurethane.
