My son’s birthday is coming up and as we were looking threw some lumber I had gotten a hold of he noticed a chunk of plywood 1”x20”x24”. He asked if for his birthday we could build him a drawing desk he could take anywhere in the house and use on his bed. I agreed and came up with a simple design and used 3/4×5 pine for the sides and legs. I put a strip of 1×2 across the back to give it some stability. I left a lot of it up to him, resulting in orange rattle can paint job and a duck tape pencil bag attached to the side. I also took a piece of scrap and made a pencil holder on the side.

knowing my son I focused on durability and function.

Well, your son is smiling. That’s what you want to see.

I like the clean lines of the piece. Now your son needs one of those secret compartment pencil holders…

What a great idea, and after all it was what he wanted and it appears he will use it
