Very nice. I don’t see any rulers glued to the back yet though. Does it have stops for repeat cutting?

No rule. I rarely, if ever, use the rules on anything other than my tape measure and my metal rules. I made a few adjustable stops that slide in the t-track for batch cutting.

Mark -
This is beautiful. Like your new saw. What made you pick the Makita over other brands? I agree with you on measuring tapes – I typically measure from my blade and set a stop block.

Ya why did you go with the Makita, I’d have thought Powermatic would have sent you one…mr. Domino months before the rest of us. Beutiful work, great podcast, still a big fan, you are checking out spring training baseball thought right? seeing as you do live in arizona

I chose the Makita based on general reviews and consensus on its accuracy. Seemed to be the best choice for “fine woodworking”. Not to mention I got a killer deal on Amazon last week.
That would indeed be great if Powermatic came out with a miter saw. Come to think of it, why the heck dont they have one yet?

So Shawn. What you are telling me is that they play baseball in Arizona? In the spring?? News to me. :)

Hello Marc,

Very new here, and I’ve got to say, I went to your site quickly after seeing some of your work. Outstanding talent and dedication. Very Inspiring to me as I continue this journey. I love the simplistic yet elegant look of the miter station. Spot on!

my first thought was: is it the table we are looking at or the new toy?? I mean tool?? hehehee

I also notice that the blue matched the other blue thingy posted in the wall storage unit. Your decor is coming along nicely.

I noticed you put it right in front of the airconditioner. You must be planning to spend a lot of hot days there. That a very nice miter station.

Marc, from the reading I’ve done, you chose the right miter saw. I like the simplicity of the station.

Shawn, you can only have so much powermatic equipment. And he isn’t telling us how he got it either. I think he married Mr. Powermatic’s Granddaughter. The Gold Standard since 1921.

I have a Makita 10” sliding compound miter saw, and I’ve been nothing but happy with it. Great tool choice if you want my opinion. I started to build a dedicated rolling station for it, but was quickly sidetracked by another project. I ended up with a rolling cabinet with a leveling top for my saw to ride on. One of these days I’ll finish it up by adding the “wings” on both sides. Just another item on the shop project “to do” list.

Marc once again you have inspired us all. I keep telling my wife that I want to spend a couple of weeks updating/building some shop equipment and she responds, “That’s a great idea, just as soon as you finish building all my stuff.”

BTW - I’m off to the shop to finish a low boy bookcase for her.

I use Hitachi 10” slider with the laser. I never would have bought a slider based on my experience with various contractors in the field. Even a “high end” trim carpenter. Most guys had the DeWalt 12” or the Bosch and Ridgid 12”. I understand dragging tools to the field affects their accuracy, but I found them sloppy and unacceptable. My brother had the 10” Hitachi in his shop and I couldn’t believe how accurate the cut stayed, even when fully extended. The laser is very accurate and easy to adjust. I have heard that the Makita is about the best 12” you can get.

Hey Todd. Recommendations like yours are the exact reason I went with the Makita. Many people said that it was the most accurate and thus the most suitable for a fine woodworking. So far, I am very happy with it. But then again, anything would have been an improvement over that old Craftsman I was using. :)

Nice station. Slightly more attractive than the ripped hollow core doors I’m using for mine ;)

Good to know about the Makita, Dad’s been lugging his hitachi around (which we’ve experienced the good and bad of accuracy issues) but still is acceptable. (WAY better than his old one, unable to square – despite having a one piece fence!) We will have to look at the makita for the stationary one (or for when he has an honest to goodness tool rack in a van, rather than the current method of strategic stacking in the back of the pickup.

I am going to try to make a new miter station soon. This is one of the best I’ve seen. If you get a chance, send me a message to let me know if there is anything you would have done differently.

Blake you may want to take a look at plans now as they have a unique miter station pland that I used for my first station on a 10 inch saw. Because it is so portable I used in in and out of the shop on several occasions . (check the center picture) It carries well and seems designed to eliminate most objections that accompany the accuracy of portable stands.
I’d build it again but for the weight of my new Hitachi Sliding CMS – this sucker is heavy. I may have to keep the 10 incher around for the odd job.

great job Marc, these miter saw work stations are great since they solve the one problem with a miter saw, the small bed and fence. i just wish I had room for one, from your old craftsman you must know how hard it is to balance an 8ft board on the bed to take 6” off of the end. thanks for the post!
