Happy Father’s Day to all of you dads. Hope it is a good day spent with family. My daughter decided she would like a few new pens so we took some time this afternoon to make some. The multicolored blank came from Rockler and I really like the way it turned out. I did most of the work on that one and she did much of the work with my guidance on the purple heart one. The little one now has a string tied to it and it is tied next to her booster seat in my truck so she does not have to worry about losing another pen in my truck :).

The 4th picture shows a pen for a different father, Father Jim is leaving the church next week and I wanted to give him a going away present. This pen is made from local Honeysuckle, he is the priest that married my wife and I and baptized our daughter. I am not Catholic but he has always made me feel welcome.

The last pic shows 2 pens that my DW is taking with her on a business trip this week because a bunch of people were admiring her personal pen last time she was out there. They are both local woods and completed with kits from Craft Supplies. I really like the Gun Metal finish on the new kits.

Thanks all for looking.

Nice work and great to see your daughter getting into the shop, my 9 year old daughter has been very excited to spend some time in the shop lately and it’s always tough finding spur of the moment projects that will hold her interest, I’ll have to get my pen mandrels out and glue up some blanks for next time.

Thanks for the idea.

James, The pen turning is fun. My daughter is now 5 and loves it though she does lose interest a bit. Hence the reason I made the 2nd pen. She helped with the assembly. I am sure your daughter would love to be able to make her own pen and show it off at school next year.

Hope you have fun, Can’t wait to see it completed…

BTW.. A belated welcome.
