Project Information

This thing was a royal pain in the butt to make, simple as it looks! Truly a hot mess, I must have stripped and refinished it 3 times. It was done for a friend/client who works in the Federal legal community, so I knew it would be seen by more than a couple of Judges. And hoping to land that ever-elusive "Judge's Wall" project, I decided it had to be absolutely perfect. Did I mention i'm NOT Amish? So, this just wasn't gonna happen. I'm sure there are a couple minor flaws, but for my purposes it had to do. I just couldn't justify chopping up that much beautiful oak just to stick in a dark closet, so I did use the 3/4 veneer red oak panel for the shelves. Big mistake. It's funny how different types of oak take certain stains in a different way, huh. Oh well, you live and you learn!

This is great. Nice job. My wife could really use this. She has one of these racks that mounts on the inside of the door in her closet. I never saw so many shoes in my life. Why do women have so many shoes? I have only three pair. I have a pair of dress shoes, a pair of street shoes and my Red Wings. About the only one I use 95% of the time is my Red Wings. My wife's shoe rack keeps me up at night because I keep thinking that some time during the night the whole door is going to come crashing down in the middle of the night and wake me up. You are thinking well my friend. This is what I need to make for my wife.

Honestly, I did think about the drink as I was posting the pic! Thought that might ruffle some feathers, but it was the only decent set of pics I had. I had just finished hauling that thing around the front of the house to take to the client's (by myself!), and really didn't care what I put on it. I was so damn irritated with the rack at that point, I very well may have just put it there for spite, who knows!
