This is a hope chest that I built for my daughters wedding on June 23, 2012.

It measures 48” wide X 19” deep, and 27” high.

The chest is made from hard maple. The bottom of the chest is pine. All joints are mortise and tenon with cherry pins. The tongue and groove floor of the chest is mounted in a dado. I put a trim detail (pictured) in a dado around the bottom of the lid to cover the seam when the lid is closed.

The finish is Minwax oil called “natural.” Its sealed with several coats of Cabot polyurethane.

Very nice craftsmanship. I really like the contrasting pins, and the inside angle detail on the legs softens the design very well.

Now that’s a real fine looking hope chest. The joinery is certainly in a class of it’s own. The finish of choice will stay fresh & bright for life. Great job! Wally

That is so lovely – I can just imagine how silky smooth it feel – and I love the style. Your daughter is a little spoilt :) Maple is a very beautiful timber – we don’t have it in Oz – the closest thing we would have is hoop pine – tho its grain is a lot more honey colour – Beautiful job!

Wow! I have a daughter too and I know and understand the care and attention and the special hope and love that goes into such a project. You’ve created a peice here for future generations to enjoy as well.

Wayne: I’m certain that you’ve shown how much you care for your daughter in many ways, but if you hadn’t, this fine piece will certainly deliver the message. Congratulations!
