This was my second project whilst at university, when i was designing this piece i wanted to think outside the box, excuse the pun, but i knew every one else would make a rectangular box and i wanted to make something different.
The design of the unfolding part of this box cam from a toilet roll tube, and the spiral i was on it made me think of it unwrapping, so after some development i came up with the design you see.
The box can hold three packs of playing cards and hold extra items underneath the card tray.
This box was designed for magicians or card lovers who would appreiate a playing cards and would like a place to keep them safe.
The box is made from quarter sawn sycamore and walnut veneered MDF for the splines.
The finish on the box is a spray lacquer

Many Thanks

Awesome design and very well built, this would be a great project for left over lumber.

Cool design….amazing what ideas come from sitting on the throne. Turned out well!

Josh,

Interesting shape. Why not make the top as one piece? It could also furnish you with another small space for storage. The sycamore is nicely grained…good choice there.
