This was the first project i made when i started my university course in furniture design and craft, our brief was to design and make a stool using hand tools and traditional methods and techniques.
The design was based on a house in japan called the ‘Y’ house, and after development and making models i came up with the design you see before you.
The Stool is entirely made from Brown Oak with a Danish oil finish, with a coat of dark brown wax.
If you have any questions please feel free to message me
Thanks

Beautiful stool, Josh…it immediately caught my eye when I opened the “projects” page. I’m drawn to both Japanese design as well as Arts and Crafts style, and this emanates the influence of both. Way to go…happy woodworking!

great looking stool. I like the Y house design of the structure. Its is very interesting and unique. the broad triangular shape on the side of the top is also a nice touch. p.s. your first photo is lit and shot perfectly.
