A friend at church asked me carve a gift for our music director and his wife, John and Belinda Birdsong. I had the idea to use one of the old wooden organ pipes for the carving, which is based on a L.S. Irish pattern from her wildlife relief carving book. I had to modify it a bit to fit in the small space and I added a little musical note that the bird is feeding on, trying to tie in the family name and the importance of music in their lives. The old organ has heard songs of celebration, worship, and mourning over many years and has played an important part in our church, so it seemed appropriate as a gift to honor this family. I believe the wood is spruce. Thanks for looking!

Very beautifully carved Mike and a fitting tribute to the recipients. I love the idea about the bird feeding on a music note.

Looks like the Wrens in my backyard except no musical notes!

There are two wonderful gifts here Mike – your creative carving talent and the wonderfully appropriate gift you made. Well done!
