Well after 4 months & some 200+ hours, my canoe is finished. What a project & learning experience. I enjoyed the challenge & that first paddle across the lake made it all worth it. For those that have followed the process bear with me. The hull is cedar with walnut & aspen accents. The aspen diamonds inside the walnut strip, because they are the end grain, absorbed more the the resin & when the sunlight shines through them they have a warm yellow/orange glow. She glides through the water like a hot knife through butter. I always wanted to make one, I’m just sorry that my mentor for the last 30 years wasn’t here to see it. I think that he would be proud of his grandson.

I had to take a look back at your build pictures of this beautiful craft, naturally as with any sawdust addict,
there are never enough pictures, but there were enough to show the care and the sweat that went into
the build. I think that your grandfather would indeed be proud of you and you canoe. Hope you have many
happy years ahead with the canoe, and may the wind always be a tailwind.

Beautiful! Is that a touring bow or a whitewater bow, hard for me to tell without my glasses.
You need to put the medallion on the bow, a sign of good luck and safe travel. Years ago, the sign would have been a sun or a moon. Lately, I have seen compasses, clovers, nekkid ladies, and a whole host of other things.
You done a great job, I hope it serves log and valiantly for you!

Very nice job and in pretty good time as well.
I know that you will think of your grandpa when you are on the water with this lovely craft.
In that way, he’s not gone.

That’s not just a canoe, it’s art! You’ve made one of the best looking boats I’ve seen in a long time.
