This was one of the first projects I did when I came back from Iraq. I made this for my daughter in 2010-11 out of spare pine 2×4’s. The heart is made from purple heart and inlaid in the front and back of the chest. This was my first major project that I put a lot of effort and thought into. I really wanted a arched top lid and took me a week or so to finally figure out how I was going to go about doing that. A couple of things I wish I did differently now looking back at it are the sides are just butt-jointed together. A nice finger/through dovetail joint would of added to the beauty of it as well as the structural integrity. Also if I constructed the lid and box into one initially and then cut the lid I would of got a better fit. It was close but not really to my pleasing. This was a fun build and I have some requests to make more so look forward to seeing a video on a new improved smaller version of this in the future.
