Hello, I am new here and wanted to show you my latest project.
this table was commissioned by a local church to be used as the communion table for Sunday services.
It measures 38” long by 22” wide by 28” high and is made of black walnut with marble tiles. I do most of my work by hand if possible. I am 53 years old and far beyond the age of ripping boards by hand, but otherwise all my work is hand work. All the shaping and joinery is hand cut. the moldings around the top were made with
my old trusty Stanley 45 plane, and the legs were shaped with spoke shaves and rasps. This was the third piece that I have made for this church, the others were a podium made of Black walnut
and a 4’ by 3’ cross made of curly maple with a black walnut accent strip down the middle. As an added
highlight, I carved a crown out of Mahogany and inlaid it with lacewood, purpleheart, and maple to represent
the jewels. I look forward to seeing what everyone else is working on and mining out helpful ideas and insights to working wood.. would also like to say Hey to Dan from Kragerwoodworking.. thanks for the invite.. Papaswoodworking Steve aka papa
