New member here, after lurking for a while. I thought I’d post some projects I’ve been working on.

I took the handle off my espresso tamper and made a new one out of scrap claro walnut, maple, and padauk. Finished in dark walnut danish oil and carnauba wax. I actually added some cherry red TransTint to the danish oil to give a bit more red tone to the walnut, but I think I need to add a bunch more.
The holder is black walnut, finished in amber shellac toned with red and brown mahogany TransTint. It was my first attempt at face turning.

Thanks! I’m really enjoying turning useful things on my lathe. I can feel the sickness coming on, though, where every relatively round thing in my house is a potential project….

Sweet! Love the look of the laminated tamper. Pulling shots with a homemade tamper is incredibly satisfying. Now I need to make a tamper holder.
Have your say...
