I made the larger bookcase for myself & the two shorter night stands for my younger daughters. They’re made of pine 1X12s. The top was fashioned after a Shaker bookcase I saw years ago. I liked it because the top has the sides extended up to make a sort of bookend so you can place books on the very top. Something you can’t usually do with most bookcases. The Shaker bookcase had more simple radiused top. I chose to make the tops a bit more curvy & bored a clover leaf looking design with a hole saw & routed the inside of the clover leaves, the shelf supports, the sides & top with a cove bit.

Hi Frank,
These bookcases look really good. Pine can be a difficult wood to color but you have done a good job with these. The edge treatments and designs add nice details to these as well.
Thanks for the post.

Your bookcase and the night stands for your daughters are very nicely made. Your initials is painted or woodburnt? It adds life to the bookcase.

Hi Sharad…
I made a branding iron to put my initials on my projects. My brand is registered with the Missouri Department of Agriculture. I’ve only branded my woodworking projects though. The only livestock I have is two dogs & I don’t think they’d like to be branded.
