New Kitchen

Moved into this house a year ago and the Kitchen was not quite to our taste, needed some updating, and a need to brighten it up. The lack of counter space around the stove made it difficult to prepare meals, so off to the workshop. Started with this side of the kitchen and I am currently building the cabinets for the other side. I used White Ash that I had on hand, added a Golden Pecan stain, and finished with wipe on poly. Made my own veneer, which I found is not easy getting the seems to match, but I’m getting better at it. I cut out a 5 ft. door way to the left of the cupboards, which really opened up the kitchen/dinette to the living room, making for better traffic flow. Needless to say, the wife is very happy!

Great cabinet work. Thanks for sharing. It does feel better when it is more open and brighter. It also helps to show off your great work.

As you say, it is quite an improvement and you did a good job on it.

Doug,

Your new cabinets really lighten up the kitchen. (I mistakenly thought they were hickory.) Your work looks excellent. However, if you lived a little closer, I’d gladly take your old cabinets out of your way since I’m an old lady who still really likes raised cathedral doors! Between your “old” cabinets and Alongiron's, I could have cabinets for every room!

Great work there. I like your choice of stain – sure makes things look brighter. Opening up the room with the passageway was a great idea. I like what you’ve done – now get working on the island!!!! :)
