This was a fun little project that I did for a coworker. He used to sit right next to me, and I had a game like this that was given to me. The object is to get all the pegs from one side to the other, but they can only move one space, can only jump opposite colors, and can’t move backwards at all. We would randomly take turns moving a piece through out the day, and were never able to figure it out (go figure :P) He got promoted to associate consultant and was moving down to Atlanta (from Minneapolis). I told him that if we didn’t figure it out before he moved, I would make one and send it to him. And that’s what this is. I almost didn’t want to send it out!
The top is curly maple with the sides in Walnut. The pegboard is a piece of solid curly maple. The pieces are walnut and oak dowel for contrasting colors (mine has red and yellow painted pieces, but I liked this better). I “popped the grain” with transtint on the curly maple for the top, and then followed up with several coats of Minwax Polycrylic gloss.
