I initially was making only two of these for my wife because our old ones were 13 years old and had rotted away…”I never re-painted them”. When she told me what they cost to buy, I told her that I would make her some and save about $100. Anyway, the light went on in my head and I saw some extra money in it! Ya know, money for the wood shop. So I decided to make four extra boxes and I currently have them on craigslist…wish me luck. I’m only asking $30 a piece and they’re very sturdy and strong. Now that I have all the templates and jigs, I’ll be able to make them much easier and faster! Wish I had a paint sprayer though, that’s the most time consuming part!

I like these. What kind of material did you use?

I truly appreciate the kind comments! I used pine 1/4” ply, 2×2’s, 1×2’s and 1×4’s that I ripped into four 1×1 strips. I routed 1/4” grooves in the legs and top supports so the ply would hold in place better. My old ones, which I bought years ago simply had the ply flush to the sides and I just couldn’t bring myself to make it that way.

They look great! If your looking to sell them you should give my site a try, No membership or listing fees. To get back on topic, I like the lines in the boxes. Great job!

You could avoid the painting by using PVC Lumber – just a thought.
The do indeed look great – certainly worth 30 bucks.
