A colleague is leaving us, and I wanted to present him with a memento. In my woodpile I found a nice lump of spalted birch – from a tree by my cabin that didn’t survive the rather snowrich winter a couple of years back. I have never turned spalted wood before and had worse problems with tearout than I expected. The final result is rather rough, but I guess it’ll have to do for now.

I agree that you did this wood justice. A very nice job with what you were working with. Lovely spalt in the wood.
